Welcome to the Employee Spotlight! Every month we focus on a ProMax team member- what they do here to help your dealership succeed AND a little about them personally as well. This month the spotlight is on Lender Support Manager Fred McAfee.
Describe what you do at ProMax and how it impacts our clients.
Desking has been an essential function of ProMax since its inception. Our department manages the information needed to calculate retail auto deals and leasing deals. My area of focus is retail auto deals. This involves managing and maintaining a database of information used by banks, credit unions, financial and lending institutions to calculate consumer loans. We create, change, and update this information continuously and distribute it to our customers.
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
When I started in the auto industry as a Finance Manager, the constant question was how to find the best deal that would generate revenue for the dealership, not overburden the consumer, and meet the loan parameters. I get to contribute to a clean, clear, simple solution that does just that. Not just on a local scale but on a national level.
What do you enjoy doing most outside of work?
I enjoy studying and applying the lessons we can learn from the Bible. I like most sports although my high-level competitive days ended years ago. I enjoy passing on useful and useless information that I have gathered over the decades. And I have become a bit of an amateur “dad jokes” punster.
What is your favorite line from a movie?
Too many to choose from but one that stands out, from Sleepers. A bit of a dark movie about redemption if not retribution, “One down Shakes, one down …”
If you could learn to do anything new, what would it be?
Play the saxophone at an expert level. That would be, as they say, music to my ears.
What are 3 words you’d use to describe working at ProMax?
Challenging, rewarding, exceptionalism.
Who would play you in a movie about your life, and what would the title of the movie be?
Denzel Washington in “Unrestricted”.
At what age did you become an adult, and how did you know it happened?
Not getting into the details, when I was 25 and was talked through assisting in the birth of my oldest child … things just got real.
What 3 traits define you?
Integrity, courage, patience.
What would you most like to tell yourself at age 13?
The decisions you make in life affect other people.
Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us.
I prefer, but am not insistent, to be called by my first name Frederick; my dad’s name is Fred. And I am slightly ambidextrous.
What advice would you give to recent new hires?
Get to know the people who work at ProMax. Ask questions, learn what you can about the big picture of what ProMax can do. And have fun.
What does true leadership mean to you?
Motivation will always be part of good leadership, but teaching is just as important. Sharing knowledge helps others to grow. And don’t underestimate what we can learn from each other.
What inspires you?
Unfulfilled potential.
If you could pick one superpower, what would it be?
Teleportation- imagine all the interesting places one could visit.
What are you looking forward to most this year?
In recent years I have become a grandfather. It is a newer role in my life, filled with so many emotions. I look forward to continuing to enjoy this role. It is one of the most gratifying things to ever happen to me.
