Welcome to the Employee Spotlight! Every month we focus on a ProMax team member- what they do here to help your dealership succeed AND a little about them personally as well. This month the spotlight is on Senior Technical Support Specialist Bud Smith. If you have been a ProMax user for any length of time, we guarantee you have spoken to Bud on the phone at some point!
Describe what you do at ProMax and how it impacts our clients?
My duties are hard to describe: at times I am a trainer, other times I am strictly a technician, and yet other times I am simply a good listener. This helps to get their issues resolved as quickly as possible.
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
I go home at the end of each week knowing I have helped a lot of people get through their weeks.
What do you enjoy doing most outside of work?
Playing video games, spending time with family especially the grandkids, cooking, model railroading, and some other miscellaneous hobbies.
What is your favorite line from a movie?
"With great power comes great responsibility" -Spider-Man
If you could learn to do anything new, what would it be?
I don't know I have always tried to learn as much as possible about anything I have an interest in at the time. Some examples would be: RC Quad Copters, RC Boats, 3D printing, model railroading, cooking and several others. I get into something for a while and learn all I can about it and then let it go when something else catches my interest. I have had that issue all of my life, with the exception of computers- that is the only thing that has stayed with me for more than a couple of years.
What are 3 words you’d use to describe working at ProMax?
Interesting, unexpected, fun.
Who would play you in a movie about your life, and what would the title of the movie be?
John Candy. Why?... No, I will not explain it further.
At what age did you become an adult, and how did you know it happened?
I am not there yet.
What 3 traits define you?
Loyal, trustworthy, never satisfied.
What would you most like to tell yourself at age 13?
Pay more attention to people around you. You will regret it if you don't.
Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us.
I am pretty much an open book; there is not much about me that would surprise anyone that has met me.
What advice would you give to recent new hires?
If you don't know an answer ask the question. Someone will know the correct answer. The only stupid questions are the ones you don't ask.
What does true leadership mean to you?
Leadership is done through example.
What inspires you?
This may sound narcissistic but I don't need outside influence to be inspired.
If you could pick one superpower, what would it be?
None, see the question about the line from a movie.
What are you looking forward to most this year?
If we are talking about the 2021-2022 school year, my grandson graduating high school. If we are talking just about the year 2021 just getting through it like last year and getting back to a more normal life.
